(Proverbs 16:2) “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.”
In Hebrew culture, the word for ways or actions also encompasses speech. When we act or express ourselves to others, we often tend to defend ourselves, believing that we have done well and that our motives are pure and upright. However, the latter part of the verse reminds us that only God can accurately weigh our hearts and motives as if on a scale; His judgment is more precise than any electronic balance.
Therefore, we must reflect on the fact that when we express ourselves, we should maintain an attitude of humility. We should not subjectively assume that everything we do is absolutely correct and free of stray thoughts, but rather allow God to examine and observe us. If we are conceited or think too highly of ourselves, it becomes difficult to communicate with others.
