(Proverbs 16:3)
“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
The works mentioned here include all the matters of our daily lives, both great and small, and are not necessarily limited to grand plans. We often talk about committing things to God and frequently use this to encourage those around us, but what does it actually mean to commit?
In the original Hebrew, the word for commit is like rolling a ball away, much like playing bowling; once the ball is released, it is no longer in your hands. Originally, you were gripping a heavy burden, but once you roll it away, that sense of heaviness vanishes. The Bible teaches us to hand over everything we do to God’s care. This does not mean we can simply stand by with our arms folded; we still have our own responsibilities to work hard at completing. However, we must understand that only God can lead us to success and allow things to be established securely.
In life and work, one should not shirk responsibility, yet the Bible tells us we are ordered to relieve ourselves of these weights by casting all our anxieties and burdens onto God. When we learn to do this, we no longer need to feel anxious or worried about whether something will succeed; instead, our hearts can find ease and peace. Let us commit our burdens together!
