(Proverbs 15:30)
“The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.”
The light mentioned here, in Hebrew, is like the luminaries created by God in Genesis. When our eyes focus on these shining and radiant things, our hearts feel joy, and our entire being becomes more spirited and cheerful. As for the phrase maketh the bones fat, in Hebrew grammar, bones represent the deepest part of the human body, the framework that supports the entire physical form. To be fat does not mean the bones are literally enlarged, but rather represents a state of being rich in marrow and very healthy, symbolizing that the entire person is comfortable in body and mind.
So, how can we see this kind of light and hear such good news? In fact, this points directly toward our God. God is light; when our eyes are fixed upon Him, our souls naturally feel happy. The good report mentioned here also carries the meaning of listening in Hebrew, which is to listen to the Word of God. When we put God first in our lives, making Him the center, and listen to His guidance through the Bible and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, our lives will be filled with joy and peace, and even our outward appearance will become radiant.
Let us reflect together on whether we have already placed the Lord in the first priority of our lives.
