(Proverbs 15:22)
“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
When we make plans in our lives, whether regarding work, academics, or personal intentions, we usually face two different situations and outcomes. The term counsel mentioned in the scripture refers to a very intimate, close, and united consultation in the Hebrew context. It is like a group of people gathering in a small circle, actively exchanging ideas. If we skip this kind of deep consultation and blindly execute based solely on our own thoughts, the plan will easily fail or even fall apart completely.
On the contrary, if there are many counsellors around us, the plan is more likely to succeed. The multitude of counsellors mentioned here does not necessarily mean seeking out a vast number of people, but rather examining things from different levels and perspectives to make the plan more multidimensional and rich. A plan developed through such collective wisdom will be very stable and not easily frustrated. The greatest and most extraordinary counsellor in our lives is actually the Holy Spirit. Therefore, before making any decision, the most important thing is to consult with God first and seek His guidance through prayer. God will lead us in the direction we should go and show us which friends, family members, or brothers and sisters we should consult.
