(Proverbs 17:3)
“The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.”
These words are extremely precious for our lives. In the process of refining metals, both silver and gold must undergo intense heat to remove impurities and become pure. To God, the human heart—the core of our being, our will, and our emotions—is even more valuable than gold or silver. God refines us through the various circumstances we encounter in life, not with the intent to torment us, but to make our lives shine as brilliantly as gold and silver.
This kind of refining often appears within our choices and our periods of waiting. For example, when you have an opportunity for promotion, but it requires you to do something that violates Biblical moral standards, that is a test. If you give up that promotion to uphold your faith principles, your heart has successfully undergone a period of tempering. Alternatively, if you are in the midst of the struggle of long-term unemployment and searching for a job, will you choose to blame others and live despondently, or will you actively wait for God’s guidance? These hardships are actually opportunities bestowed by God for us to learn how to face challenges.
If we can view every challenge in life with the right attitude, seeing them as refinement and testing, our lives will become increasingly pure. Conversely, if we only complain, our lives may become dim and lusterless. Only God can refine our lives; I hope everyone can view the challenges in life as opportunities for growth.
