Two keys to improving your finance

(Proverbs 16:16)
“How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”

This is a classic example of Hebrew parallelism, reminding us that when making choices in life, wisdom and understanding are far more important than material wealth. In ancient times, gold and silver were considered the most valuable possessions, yet the scripture tells us that wisdom and understanding should still take precedence.

So, what exactly do wisdom and understanding represent? We can view wisdom as the direction of life. Much like holding a map or a compass, it guides us toward our destination without veering off course, which in life means adhering to biblical principles. Understanding, on the other hand, is the method of reaching that destination. If we are sailing, understanding is the practical execution that tells us how to navigate and avoid the rocks.
If we have understanding without wisdom, we might resort to unscrupulous means to make money due to a lack of principled restraint. Conversely, if we have wisdom without understanding, we may have ideals and goals but lack the knowledge of how to implement them, easily falling into empty daydreaming. Therefore, the two are complementary.

For instance, when the financial climate is unfavorable, wisdom tells us that we must earn money legally and in accordance with our faith; while understanding teaches us how to increase income and reduce expenses, and how to improve our livelihood through correct and effective methods.
