(Proverbs 19:3)
“The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.”
This describes a very shiftless and irresponsible type of person. This kind of foolishness does not refer to low intelligence, but rather means that a person’s heart is full of pride, refuses to listen to God’s words, and always believes they are completely right, which is a form of stubbornness and obstinacy. They are so stubborn that they ignore God and insist on their own way of thinking. It is precisely because of this kind of decision that they completely fail and destroy their own path. Life could have been a good and proper path, but they ended up destroying their own future with their own hands.
Not only that, but such a person also complains against the Lord in their heart. In the original Hebrew meaning, complaining represents immense anger and roaring, even to the point of rebuking God. The fact that they have fallen into such a terrible state and situation today is entirely of their own making. It is because they stubbornly believe they are not wrong, ignore God, and disregard the principles of the Bible that they fall into a miserable plight. However, they will not see this as their own responsibility; instead, they blame God and harbor great anger, which is the definition of a shiftless person.
When we see this kind of situation, we might think, what is wrong with this person, blaming God when they brought it upon themselves? But more importantly, we need to reflect on ourselves, because sometimes we also become this kind of foolish person. Some decisions were made wrongly by us because of our pride and our refusal to listen to God’s words, leading to wrong choices that force us to bear the bitter consequences. Then, we unexpectedly go on to complain against God, questioning why He allowed us to end up like this. This is something that often happens to Christians. Today, let us reflect on our own hearts: have we complained against God? Why are we in this state today? In fact, more often than not, it is brought upon ourselves.
