(Proverbs 17:24)
“Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.”
The wise, that is to say, people with insight, are able to focus on the present and address the problems they face right before them. They are not absent-minded; rather, they know how to concentrate their spirits to resolve practical difficulties, and this is true focus. Conversely, foolish people have eyes that are always wandering. Although they may have many grandiose thoughts in their hearts, or be thinking about distant matters, they lack focus and are unable to handle the practical problems right in front of them.
In life, we are often prone to becoming foolish. We are frequently distracted by various unrealistic fantasies, or disturbed by the illusory things around us, which causes our attention to scatter. Sometimes we imagine grand goals but lack practical plans. Therefore, we should learn from the wisdom of those with understanding, focusing our hearts and minds on dealing with the issues right before us; this is what we most need to do right now.
