(Proverbs 17:12)
“Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.”
This is a profound comparison that reminds us to be extremely cautious in our daily lives. In the ancient Near East, a mother bear was considered one of the most ferocious wild beasts. When a mother bear finds that her cubs have perished, her despair and rage cause her to lose all control, making her an immense threat to any passerby.
However, the Bible points out that a fool who is morally corrupt, arrogant, and self-serving is even more dangerous than a frenzied bear. This type of fool does not refer to someone with low intelligence, but rather to those who act without scruples, harming others without even benefiting themselves, and whose emotions are completely out of control. They destroy relationships and ruin everything around them. When facing such a person, attempting to communicate or advise them is futile. Therefore, when encountering this kind of dangerous individual, the only solution is to escape quickly and seek the Lord’s protection through prayer, asking Him to grant us the discernment and wisdom to identify them and maintain our distance.
