Watch out! Do not follow the crowd!

(Proverbs 16:5)
“Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.”

In Hebrew, pride represents a person’s heart constantly rising, even placing oneself in a position higher and more important than God. This is a great moral offense in the eyes of God, and He deeply detests such an attitude.

The phrase joined in hand mentioned in the scripture refers to how those who are arrogant are often not satisfied with being proud alone; they seek like-minded friends to form alliances to defy God’s commands. They think of themselves as being very avant-garde or capable, even believing that God cannot stop them. However, the scripture reminds us that these people will ultimately not escape God’s judgment.

In daily life, we often see people who rely on their extensive experience, high IQ, or abilities to ignore biblical principles, even banding together to challenge God’s will. This mindset is extremely dangerous. We must understand that without God, we can actually do nothing; everything relies on His grace and power.
Therefore, besides maintaining humility at all times, we must also stay away from those proud individuals who tempt us to ignore God’s word.
