(Proverbs 14:33)
“Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.”
This verse contrasts how two types of people handle knowledge and wisdom. The wise possess wisdom and discernment from God; they keep wisdom within their hearts, much like a deep and calm lake. They are not in a hurry to flaunt it or show off, but instead apply it appropriately when there is a genuine need to help others or solve problems.
In contrast, fools—often referring in the Bible to those who refuse to listen to instruction and are prideful—tend to hastily speak or express everything in their hearts, regardless of whether it is right or wrong. This behavior is not intended to help others, but is rather for self-boasting and the desire for others to think they are impressive. However, such actions often backfire and even turn them into a laughingstock.
Through this passage, we learn that wisdom is not a tool for self-promotion, but should be as steady and calm as deep waters. We must learn humility and maintain a low profile, managing our wisdom well.
